My Universe-Yu Cyuan GAO Solo Exhibition

“The things we love often reflect shadows of ourselves.”
Gao Yu-Cyuan’s works often express emotion through a montage-like approach, creating an entire universe of his own within each composition. With tender brushstrokes, he paints the poetry of daily life.
“Mountains and water” are fundamental elements of the real world, yet in ink painting, their depictions often lack tangible realism. While such imagery may serve as symbolic constructs to most viewers, in Gao Yu-Cyuan’s world, they are deeply real—virtual in form but emotionally true.
“Light” serves as a medium to experience the world, while emotion is what remains after that experience. Human emotions stir like a dance through the complex world. Gao uses light as an expressive agent, letting it move across the canvas to leave behind traces—spreading, diffusing, and rendering the inner tremors of feeling.
“When objects from the natural world enter Gao Yu-Cyuan’s paintings, they become vessels for emotional transformation.” Fleeing the noise of urban life, he finds refuge in tranquil mountains and warm sunlight. Emotion is essential to human existence, yet it also becomes the center of being. As he puts it: “What was once beautiful, when gone, leaves behind an inevitable sense of loss.”
The universe Gao builds is a sanctuary where the things he cherishes are preserved. For him, the idealized worlds within his paintings are not escapist fantasies—they are projections of his consciousness. He is not painting illusions, but rather shaping his own version of reality.

「喜歡的事物往往都能投射出自己的影子。」
高堉銓的作品習慣將情感以蒙太奇的手法處理，在畫面中開天闢地自己的宇宙，以柔情的筆觸繪畫出生活中的一切。
「山與水」是構建現實的必然物件，在水墨繪畫中形象卻不夠真實。透過虛擬形象建築世界，或許對多數觀者是想像中的符號，但在高堉銓的作品與世界裡卻是如此真實。
「光」是感受世界的介質，情感則是感受世界後的產物。人因情感流動而隨之起舞，在繁複的世界飄動著。在畫面裡運用了感受世界的「光」，走過畫布所留下的痕跡，擴散及渲染描寫心中情感的波動。
「當真實世界裡的自然物件進入高堉銓的畫作中，成了他情感轉化的媒介。」逃離城市喧囂，自然的山水與和煦日光是他的避風港。情感是人活在世上的必需品，卻也佔據了活著的重心，他說：「逝去的美好往後也終將缺憾。」
高堉銓所創造出的宇宙便是將自己所愛放置其中珍藏保留，對他而言，畫中過度美化的世界，便是自己意識的投射，他並非繪製虛幻，而是創造現實。(文/許雅琦)
