All Return to Peace-Kuo Wei LIN Solo Exhibition
Jul 12 - Aug 11, 2024
Text / Curator Hsueh-Yen Tseng
“Paradise,” derived from the Greek word Paradeisos and referenced in the Bible, originally refers to heaven or the Garden of Eden—the place where humanity first existed. In contemporary times, the human living environment has been profoundly impacted by climate change, environmental pollution, and the depletion of natural resources, making environmental protection and sustainable development critical global issues.
Lin Kuo-Wei incorporates elements of “moe” (萌え, a Japanese term denoting affectionate attraction to characters) to shape his figures. Through allegorical storytelling, he creates three-dimensional and installation works that combine his mastery of clay modeling, wood carving, and realist oil painting techniques. His sculptures offer immediate and accessible visual appeal, drawing viewers into an imagined world and narrative context where one can vividly picture what the characters might be experiencing.
Have you been “moe-struck”?
