For the first time, GSA Gallery in Taichung collaborates across disciplines with KGI Bank’s Zhongshan Branch in Taipei to present an exclusive exhibition featuring two of its represented artists:
“The Surreal Within the Real – Contemporary Art by Wen Jui Tsao and Kuo Wei Lin.”

Wen Jui Tsao, born in 1964 in Taipei, grew up in the golden age of animation, comics, video games, and science fiction films. He studied traditional ink painting during art college and later pursued a Master’s degree in Fine Arts in the United States, where he mastered Western painting techniques and absorbed diverse global cultural influences. Known for his classical realism in oil painting, this exhibition showcases three key stages of his creative journey.
From the first phase, “Windows of the Soul,” with its introspective framing devices, to the second, “Virtual Theater,” which expands into broader scenic narratives, and finally, to the third, “Muse Project,” exploring contemporary aesthetics. By cleverly appropriating iconic anime characters and embedding them into surreal yet familiar social contexts, his work constructs whimsical worlds that reflect real societal issues—inviting viewers on a thoughtful and visually playful journey of discovery.

Kuo Wei Lin, born in 1985 in Taipei, holds an MFA from Taipei National University of the Arts. He began creating sculptures during his academic years and has since received top honors in Taiwan’s wood sculpture competitions for several consecutive years. His sculptural practice focuses on environmental concerns and endangered species. Known for merging human figures with animal forms, he creates wearable, protective hybrids often adorned with metal zippers—symbolizing both inclusion and protection.
This exhibition presents his latest Yoga Series in bronze, where Arctic animals are whimsically paired with yoga poses, standing atop melting icebergs. These sculptures convey a joyful, serene sense of balance, echoing modern society’s pursuit of physical and spiritual well-being. His work serves as a gentle reminder of the pressing environmental changes we all face today.

As Picasso once said, “Art is a lie that makes us realize truth.” Through their imaginative expressions, both artists capture the authentic texture of daily life, creating realms of surreal wonder that rekindle our purest emotional responses.

臺中國璽藝術首次跨領域與臺北凱基銀行–中山分行合作展覽，推出獨家代理藝術家「真實存在的異想–曹文瑞、林國瑋當代藝術創作展。」

曹文瑞於1964出生臺北，成長於動畫、漫畫、電玩與科幻電影蓬勃發展的年代，在藝專時期學習水墨畫，畢業後赴美國攻讀藝術碩士，習藝西畫，瀏覽世界各國文化累積成藝術創作的涵養，擅長古典寫實油畫繪畫技法。此次特別展出曹文瑞三個時期經典作品，從十年前第一時期「心靈視窗」觀景窗畫面構思，陸續到第二時期「虛擬劇場」開闊視野場景，跨越至第三時期「謬思計劃」呈現當代美學現象。畫面中巧妙挪用大家熟悉的動漫角色，描繪社會當下真實存在時事現象，建構了充滿奇趣的異想世界，引人省思，值得慢慢挖掘趣味的旅程。

林國瑋於1985出生臺北，畢業於臺北藝術大學美術系碩士班，在學時期即開始從事雕塑創作，曾經連續多年獲得臺灣木雕創作最高榮譽獎項。雕塑創作以關懷環境與瀕臨絕種動物為主題，擅長以人物結合動物形象為主體，用「穿戴」的概念鑲上金屬拉鍊，塑造「包容V.S保護」的立體作品。此次展出最新瑜珈系列銅雕作品，將極地動物有趣結合瑜珈獨特的體位動作，佇立在融化的冰山上，造型賦予愉悅又自在穩定的樣貌，像似現代人追求身心靈平衡的心境，讓人生充滿喜悅與希望，願大家共同關注現今環境之巨變。

畢卡索說：「藝術是一種使我們達到真實的假想。」兩位藝術家透過天馬行空創作想法實踐，記錄「真實」日常的存在感，打造出奇思異想的境界，喚回內心單純的感動。
